Self-care before your big event.

There are many things to accomplish before you host your big event, no matter the event. One of those things on that list should be self-care. Self-care comes in so many forms, but as an event planner, I have seen generally calm, patient, and healthy people come close to falling apart. Here are three things you should do and do with regularity as you approach that big dinner, wedding ... event.

1. Schedule in walks, runs, and exercise time. Pick the exercise and add it to your calendar and stick to it. You will thank yourself later.

2. Schedule two - at least two - periods in a day that are all about you. You need to meditate, pray or simply hear your own thoughts in peace. Schedule that time and allow no one, including you, to break those firm dates.

3. Regard eating as essential as breathing. Do not allow yourself to go without the sustenance of food. Being light-headed and weak is not fun or preferred. Keep a healthy snack nearby and push away from the computer to eat mindfully.

These seem like simple things to do, but guess what? If you do not do these three things, you will be stressed and unhealthy. You will not treat yourself well and it will be hard to give others your best.

Practice self-care.
