7 ways to raise money for your cause at home.

Over the years, I have planned a series of fundraisers for a variety of causes. There have been galas, auctions, luncheons, and more. Some of the most compelling fundraising events actually take place in the privacy of a client’s home. People fundraise in their homes all of the time. These types of home events aren’t just for the rich and famous; anyone can host a fundraiser in their home – right in the living room. And there are things you can do at home that don’t require a gathering.

Here are a few suggestions:

  1. Host a brunch and invite guests who commit to donating to your cause. Invite a representative of your cause into your home to give a presentation. You could also recruit guests to host a similar event for the cause in their homes too.

  2. Host a recipe book party. Know other home cooks? Invite them over, decide on a cause, and share recipes to create a self-published book using a tool like Amazon Create or an e-book. Invite a photographer to take pictures of dishes that match each recipe. Participants split the cost of publishing the book. Market your recipe book on social media or create copies and host a launch to sell them for your cause.

  3. Collect donations using Facebook Charitable Giving Tools. This is becoming a popular way for people to raise money for their favorite causes. Make sure your cause meets the standard to receive your donation before doing so.

  4. Set up a Go Fund Me account for your cause or search posted causes and give.

  5. Use an e-news tool like Mail Chimp or Mad Mimi to send a special newsletter to friends, family and acquaintances that introduces them to your cause with a link to the cause’s donation site.

  6. Host a cocktail reception in your home for your cause. Invite friends, representatives from your cause, and let your cause leave with donations and commitments.

  7. Collect in-kind donations at your home and host an event, where friends assist you in packaging the donations like soaps, deodorant or even diapers are distributed to organizations in your city. Give your donors an experience and have a light lunch prepared just for them.

We are approaching fundraising season, and as you can tell there is always one than more way to give right at home. If you have any suggestions to add to this list, leave a comment.
